I just started uni this year, and as part of an module I made
available all my documentation and links to references on a
section of my website.

I am just finishing off an essay now, and intend to upload it
too, so I can share with colleagues what I have been up to.

Should I upload as is, references and all, which might encourage
copying, or should I upload a copy with references removed?

I favour the former, as there is no point, IMO, of having a
document with no back up, but at the same time I dont want to
encourage people to copy what I have worked hard on!

Any advice, etc!

Simple.
File incomplete references; if they are willing to do the search to complete
the references, they probably deserve to steal your hard work.

Make it too easy, and you carry the responsibility for uneducated cheats and
thieves working beside you.

Sorry, but thats the reality.

I agree with Andrew regarding withholding the references. Your essays are
not likely to be much use to students intent on plagiarism at universities
other than your own unless their module assignment guidelines are the
same/very similar, which is very unlikely.

Im not quite sure why you want to publish the finished article in this way
(with or without reference lists) and it could be seen as encouraging
plagiarism in others?

In addition, when looking at the page you mention, it appears you are
publishing copies of full text articles which have been made available to
subscribers (either individual or institutional) only, and this is likely to
break the terms of the copyright agreement. Unless you have the specific
permission of the authors/publishers/copyright holders this is almost
certainly illegal. If they are full text articles published as open access
or under a creative commons licence you would be better off just linking to
the full text on the web.

Just dont do it.
Its very kind of you to want to share your work and help others, but you
could, unwittingly, be accused of collusion. In most universities this is
regarded as a form of plagiarism. You have worked hard to complete your work
and find your references-this exactly what you are supposed to do. Its
exactly what everyone else is supposed to do, too!
Cheers
