Ive been hearing a lot about robots in hospitals lately and I decided
to learn more about them. I found a robot called the CareBot which is
made by a company called GeckoSystems, Inc. Their website is
ttp://www.geckosystems.com. It follows you automatically, doesnt run
into anything, and verbally reminds you of important events. It also
has remote visiting and video conferencing built in. It can also carry
an additional 100 lbs. in supplies. I think this robot could probably
help a lot of nurses on a daily basis. Has anyone ever used anything
like this? Would anyone use a robot like this? What do you think?

You promoted them on sci.med.nursing a couple of days ago (Word for word the
same - remember?)

My response is the same:

I have a mobile phone that does all that and cost me Ł20.00 ($35.00).

It fits in my pocket.

Why would I want a wheelie bin following me around for $56,000?

Andrew,

Yes I used the same post as on the other board, but I am not promoting.
I am seeking the opinions of nursing professionals to see if a product
like this would be useful, what is seen as good points/bad points,
whether or not nurses would use this robot, if this is somthing that
could reduce stress and increase productivity and level of care
available to patients, etc. I read an article in The Washington Post
(http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/06/27/AR2005062701842.html)
about robots being used in clinical settings and would like to find out
if nurses think this could really be used effectively in healthcare.

Why?

Whats YOUR interest, if you are NOT promoting it?

BTW, my original answer was dead serious - everything you say this
wheeliebin can do for 56,000 dollars, my mobile phone already does for a
tiny fraction of that. And I dont trip over it, and it wont explode in the
sluice, or frighten the older women.

So whats your POINT?
