I watched a recent documentary on this pioneering outfit and plastic surgery
of burnt second world war air-crew.
Plenty of info on the net about the surgeons there but nothing I could find
about details of the nurses.

The doc. reminded me that my mother (deceased) told me she had worked as a
theatre nurse treating burnt aircrew and I seem to remember the town of
East Grinstead being mentioned at some time. She had worked at various
places and positions even district nurse and midwife etc before marrying.
Every Christmas, well into the 1960s she received a Christmas card from one
of these airmen.
The story attatched to him and his individual gratitude was:
In the operating theatre the surgeon was treating this airmans severely
burnt hands and he mentioned that in all probability his fingers would
contract up and hed loose use of his hands.
My mother left the theatre and returned with the cardboard cores from a
couple of toilet rolls and the surgeon considered it was worth trying just
wrapping the fingers around the cardboard.
It worked and he retained use of his fingers, hence the yearly christmas
cards.

Anyone know where to research the names of nurses attached to the Guinea
Pig Club ?

Got a letter back so for anyone else finding this thread

unforunately the personel department within the hospital have either
destroyed all records of staff members during the war years or even they may
never have recorded them which is a great pity

These nurses will be in their 80s and 90s now. It may be worth trying that
Where are they now feature in the Daily Mail. People often trace war-time
friends via that.

The Daily Mail reuniting service is actually called Missing and Found, and
can be contacted by either post or email. Details available if required.
