Hi All, hope this is not too off topic. My cousing is attending interview
for a nursing assistant position in elderly care. I am not familiar nowadays
with NHS interview formats and am wondering if anyone out there can give me
an idea of questions they would ask on interview. Thanks in advance for any
help. Sue

I would have thought they would want to know that you know what you are
letting yourself in for. Also that you understand health and safety and
confidentiality issues. Will probably a couple of scenario based questions -
what would you do if....
If in doubt you would report it to/ask trained/more senior staff.

Usually nhs interviews have two or three interviewers who take turns with
questions this is to make it more fair for you as personality is less
important than your answers.

I have had 2 interviews for bank posts as HCA, the first one I
must have done very well on, as they rushed me thorough to the
induction course the following week (most other people had had
interviews up to 6 months previously)

Anyhoo, they asked me why I wanted the job, what I thought Id be
doing, how would I like coming into work in the afternoon after
spening the morning in the sunshine and the like. The thing I
remember most about that interview was the question I was asked,
pt 1 has just died, pt2 needs changing and youre due a break,
what do you do?

I suggested that if I hadnt had a break I might not be working
to my best abilities, so I would probably go for a cup of tea.

They were happy with that answer.

However, since starting many times I would stop to help someone
on my way to a break, and if I was in the office and heard call
bells go unamswered I would cut my break short to go answer them.

Probably becuase I was on an ederly rehab ward, and all the old
dears were so nice.

Second interview (I have just moved to start uni - nursing
obviously - so bit far to commute back to old job for weekends!)
was much the same, but I could answer more about what I felt my
job was, as I had more experience. Last question was about
something I had done that I was proud of, and I had to think - do
I mention something from hosp, or something else? In the end I
told them about an election campaign I ran for myself.

Have not heard back from them yet, but hope it went well!
