Hi

Im thinking about changing career to nursing. The DipHE entry
requirements say that mature students need recent educational
experience. Is this only for students without other qalifications. I
have a degree in computing (got 13 years ago - been working in
computing ever since), three not too good A levels and a bunch of
O levels. Some of the O levels are relavant but I took them a long
time ago :(. Anyone know if these qualification would be OK or if I
might need to do an Access to Nursing course. Would it be worth doing
one anyway?

TIA

Stu

Your educational qualifications are fine for the DipHE, why not consider the
degree unless its the means-tested bursary issue? Regarding the access
course, it is excellent preparation but with your qualifications you dont
need it to get a place. Students who have done the access course are really
up to speed with studying and essay writing.

I would recommend a graduate accelerated programme (see Kings College
London for an example).

should be 2 or 2.5 years for DipHE, then during your first job, get the NHS
to pay for a one year distance learning degree top-up, or just go for an MSc
straight off.

best of luck m8, and come to my site for your care planning education needs
(shameless plug!)

www.nursingdiagnosis.com

an alternative is to get involved with NPfIT- the programme to give England
a single integrated system. The two software houses involved, IDX (London
and South clusters) and ISoft (the rest of England) are recruiting at the
moment.
