thankyou for all your comments you can all stop bitching at each other now,
such passion is typical in a nurse, venkat you are obviously not a nurse so
what is your profession. when you are on the front line you have to do what
is best for the patient and also to follow best practice guidelines in the
essence of care manifesto documented by the DoH. which i have signed myself
up to study pressure sores. the reason i wrote to the newsgroup in the
first place was to establish causes of pressure sores and how to reduce the
contributary factors. i want to enter nurse training but backbiting and
lack of team work do not persuade me very much. we now as a ward assess
peoples continence and whether or not to add drawsheets, yes we use attends
up to a size nine fastening. catheters should only be used as a last resort
due to risk of infection because of it acting like a portal into the body.
thanks again for all comments.

Hi Lisa

Dont let the arguements that sometimes happen on nursing newsgroups put you
off nurse training. A few years ago when I was a student, I posted a
question here (and on other nursing newsgroups) on the use of vaseline on
lips when oxygen was in use. I was shot down by many (claiming I was wasting
my time; wasting their time etc.) but also got alot of positive feedback.
The trust where I work now recommends we stop using petrolium based products
and switch to water based - thus I feel that I was justified in posting the
question in the first place!

As a nurse, it is very easy to slip into the weve always done it that way,
so why change it? situation. Your question about use of plastic draw sheets
is obviously valid in your area of work and the fact that you are willing to
challenge their use shows that you are thinking along the right lines. So
dont be put off by some of the comments posted after your original message.

Nursing will always have the occasional odd person but on the whole most of
us will help learners and other colleagues however we can. Best of luck with
your nurse training and carry on posting interesting and thought provoking
questions.
