Hi All,

Just a general question really ................ is there a standard
dress code for nurses in the UK?

When visiting hospitals the variety of uniforms and colours worn by
the many people coming and going is very confusing ...................
does it vary from hospital to hospital??

What would a 15 year State Registered nurse in Geriatrics wear, or a
qualified Midwife for example ???

You can tell a Police Sergeant immediately, but a theatre nurse????

TIA

it varies. it depends on the trust and more than likely how much the uniforms
cost them... i strongly suspect that they go with the cheapest... in my area,
IMO, uniforms are not only unnecessary, but possibly counter-productive (acute
psychiatry).

regards

mark

yes, one aspect of NHS trusts alwas allwing some extent of corporate image
, this has been reined in somewhat by the rise of the monolith big blue
rectangle NHS logo

however variation in nurses uniform dates back to before the NHS to the
time of Florence et al.

e are the ones that wear scrubs all the time, even when we are not
supposed to ;-)

Telling the difference between psychiatric nurses and patients tend to
be a whole different ball game :-)

Public Sector - not only is it best financial sense for them to go with the
cheapest, but the financial controller for the trust is OBLIGATED to go with
the cheapest most suitable equipment too.
